Why Choose Psychological Testing?
Psychological testing can provide invaluable insights into an individual's mental health, cognitive abilities, and overall well-being. Many clients are referred for testing by their therapist, psychiatrist, or primary care provider to clarify diagnoses or inform treatment plans. Others seek evaluations for specific goals such as academic accommodations, understanding learning differences, or applying for disability services.
Psychological assessments can also help clients better understand their own cognitive and emotional functioning, empowering them to make informed decisions about their personal development and life goals.
The Testing Process
Initial Consultation
To get started, new clients are invited to schedule a complimentary 15-minute phone consultation with Dr. Tessler. This call allows you to discuss your concerns, explore the evaluation process, and receive an initial fee estimate based on your needs.
Intake Appointment
After the initial consultation, clients complete intake paperwork, including any relevant documentation such as previous test reports, medical records, or educational records. The intake session, conducted via telehealth, lasts about an hour and covers your medical and mental health history, as well as your personal, social, and academic background. Based on this discussion, a personalized testing plan is created.
Testing Sessions
Testing sessions vary in length and scope depending on the specific evaluation. Sessions typically last between 2 to 6 hours and can be completed in one or multiple appointments. Dr. Tessler uses a mix of structured interviews, standardized testing, and subjective questionnaires. Clients are encouraged to approach testing well-rested and prepared, and to bring any necessary personal items like glasses or hearing aids.
Feedback and Results
Approximately two weeks after testing, Dr. Tessler will meet with you to review the results in a one-hour feedback session. During this time, you will receive a thorough explanation of the findings, any diagnoses, and recommendations for next steps. The final written report will be provided within 24 hours after the feedback session.
